Welcome to Jesse Walker's therapy practice, a safe haven nestled in the heart of the District of Columbia. Our practice is founded upon the principles of liberatory and anti-oppressive theories, signifying a profound dedication to social justice and ushering social change through therapeutic approaches. We warmly welcome and cater to an array of individuals, but take special interest in assisting those identifying as multiracial and BIPOC navigating through predominantly white spaces, dealing with concerns related to identity, family, relationships, and multicultural issues. Moreover, we find immense fulfillment in aiding clients through significant life transitions encompassing pregnancy, postpartum, adoption, marital shifts, break-ups, losses, and career changes.
At the core of our practice, we adhere to the psychodynamic approach, endorsing the belief that current emotions and behaviors are intricately woven by past experiences and the unconscious mind, which houses thoughts, emotions, and experiences often mislaid from conscious awareness. To us, this unconscious mind serves as the prime catalyst for the deepest feelings and behaviors. Complementing this, we employ a relational approach, using the therapeutic relationship as the vector for enduring change. Our underlying commitment is to help you unveil, acknowledge and celebrate your unique truth. We believe that you are the master of your experiences and we provide a nurturing, respectful space where you can freely express and navigate through every emotion, regardless of how painful or uneasy they may be. Our joint venture aims to alleviate distress and enrich your life, redefining your connection with yourself and others through earnest conversations, reassessment, and recognition. Moreover, we extend mentorship for graduate students pursuing clinical psychology and provide guidance to help process psychedelic experiences by integrating insightful revelations or managing challenging emotions that may emerge.
